OUR WORK - ENVIRONMENT & ENERGY
MORE ABOUT ENVIRONMENT & ENERGY
The work of the Environment and Energy Unit is guided by the UN-South Africa Strategic Cooperation Framework (SCF 2013-17) which identified sustainable development as one of its focus areas.
The overall objective of this programme is to unleash the transformative potential of a green economy in terms of addressing structural imbalances that are at the root cause of high and persistent unemployment. Through this programme, UNDP will contribute to the realisation of the National Outcomes around vibrant, equitable, sustainable rural communities, contributing towards food security for all; and that environmental assets and natural resources are well protected and enhanced. Specifically, the programme will support Government’s ongoing efforts on Greening the Economy through initiatives on Climate Change Advocacy, Knowledge Management, Capacity Building, and Sustainable use of the environmental resources, solutions and opportunities for inclusive growth purposes and mitigate negative environmental impact.
